This ATESL Best Practices document sets out a comprehensive framework of quality standards for adult EAL and LINC programs. It is organized into 15 thematic sections — including Program, Learner Support, Staff, Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment, Resources, Literacy, Online Learning, Inclusion (e.g. 2SLGBTQ+, Indigenization, anti-racism) and more — each containing “statements of best practice” accompanied by concrete indicators and illustrative vignettes. The document is intended as a guide, offering a flexible reference for administrators, instructors, and program planners to reflect on and improve their practices. It is an OER, and therefore available freely under a Creative Commons license.
